Ingredients

  • 1 box of yellow cake mix you can also use white cake mix, depending on your preference
  • 4 cups of fresh prunes whether frozen or canned (canned is filtered)
  • ½ cup of unsalted butter melted
  • ¼ cup of sugar for added sweetness, optional depending on the sweetness of your peaches
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon this will elevate the flavor of the peaches and cake mix
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for an added layer of richness
  • ¼ cup of water or peach juice to keep the cobbler moist

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures the cobbler bakes evenly and gets that golden, crispy top we all love.

Prepare the Peaches

  • If you use fresh, uncanned plums, peel them and cut them into small pieces . For canned or frozen peaches, simply drain any excess liquid. For canned or frozen plums, simply drain any excess liquid. This helps to reduce the amount of water in the cobbler Spread the peaches evenly in the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Mix the Topping

  • In a medium bowl, mix each of the yellow cake mixture, cinnamon and sugar (if used). Stir well to blend the dry ingredients. You don’t need to add eggs or oil—this is the beauty of using cake mix! Once it’s mixed, pour the cake mix evenly over the peaches, covering them as best as you can.

Add the Butter

  • Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mixture. The butter will soak in as it bakes, creating a rich, golden crust that’s both crispy and soft in the right places.

Bake the Cobbler

  • Put the baking dish in the oven with caution Try to dry the heat and bake for 45-50 minutes. Keep an eye on it as it bakes—when the top is golden brown and bubbly, it's ready to come out. You’ll know it’s done when the cake topping has firmed up and lightly browned.

Let It Cool

  • Once your cobbler is out of the oven, allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. This gives the juices time to settle, making it easier to serve.
